VC Rocks Challenge

One of the fun things we do at VC Rocks are different weekly challenges. Every week one of the moderators give us a different challage...be it a card or scrapbook page. I sometimes find it hard to just sit and stamp for fun unless I'm working on a class project so these challenges are great way to get the creativity to flow. In past years, I haven't participated in the challenges so this year I decided to try them.

For our first challenge we had to make a celebration themed card using ONLY In Colors and 1 punch. There was an advanced challenge which involved using 3 different In Colors from 3 different years, 2 punches and NO flowers! I didn't quite make the advanced challenge but I did make the basic one. It's not one of my favorite cards but I tried. Be sure to check back later this week for the next challenge!

VC Rocks First Annual Blog Hop

Welcome to Stampin Fun With Kim! You probably arrived here from Stamp With Jane but if not, you can start at the very beginning by going here - VC Rocks Blog.

For this first blog hop, I decided to share with you all the flower pot pocket card. These have been pretty popular so this isn't probably the first one you have seen. When I first saw this, I knew that I had to make one. I did this with my techniques group and the ladies loved it. They are pretty easy to make. Some are a little bigger but this size is made to mail.

Materials:
Stamp Sets: Curvy Verses, Weathered Background Stamp
Cardstock: Really Rust, Mellow Moss, Ballet Blue, So Saffron, Rose Red, Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla
Ink: Really Rust
Accessories: 5-Petal Flower Punch, 1/2" Circle Punch, Scallop Edge Punch, So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon (SAB), Dimensionals

Directions:
1. Score 9” x 3 ½” piece of cardstock in landscape position at 2” and 5 ½”.

2. Fold the 2” score line in a mountain fold and the 5 ½” score line in a valley fold.

3. Punch the edge of the 2” front flap with the Scallop Edge Punch.

4. To create the flower pot shape, place the cardstock in the paper trimmer with the top 2” flap flipped up and the bottom flap folded behind. Line up the 2” score line with the cutting track and the 5 ½” fold line with the ½” mark on the trimmer. Place the cutting guide over the card and cut. Turn cardstock and repeat.

5. Ink up the Weathered background stamp with Really Rust and stamp the front.

6. Tie ribbon around the top part of the flower pot to hold the pot together, no adhesive needed.

7. Adhere the 2 ¼” x 4 ¼” piece of cardstock to the 2 ½” x 4 ½” piece of cardstock. This will be the insert piece with the flowers attached at the top. Stamp your sentiment on the lower portion with Really Rust.

8. For the flowers, I punched out with the 5-Petal Flower punch in Ballet Blue, Regal Rose, So Saffron, and Rose Red. I then punched the center with 1/2" Circle Punch in Chocolate Chip.

9. For the leaves, I used the same punch and punched Mellow Moss. I placed a flower over the leaves and rotated it to make the mellow moss look like leaves.

10. Now attach your flowers. To help with alignment, place insert piece inside of flower pot before attaching flowers. I placed the bottom center first and then the outside flowers. I then added one to the pot itself.

This is my first Blog Hop, and it is the first Annual Blog Hop for VC Rocks! VC is a super-fun group of stampers and SU! addicts. There is so much to do all summer - virtual hotel, doing swaps, taking classes online, and so much more! If you want to join the group, go to our blog and check it out. Deadline for new members is May 30.

I do hope you enjoyed the project. Thanks for stopping by and now onward to the next stop on our hop, Lisa's Crafty Place.

Happy Stamping!!!

Flight of the Butterfly

I'm part of a yahoo group named VC Rocks. What is VC Rocks? VC Rocks is a virtual celebration of the rubber stamp company Stampin' UP! Our annual celebration runs from mid-April through August. Its a CELEBRATION of Stampin' UP!'s new catalog release and annual convention for demos and customers, an expression of our ENTHUSIASM for Stampin' UP!'s new stamps and products, a SHARING of creative stamping and scrapping ideas through swaps, make and takes, challenges and classes, SUPPORT for our SU demos with swaps and ideas for their business and ENCOURAGEMENT of friendships based on our common interest in stamping and Stampin' UP!

Would you like to be a part of the group? You can go to the blog site and sign up but I must warn you that there are a lot of emails!!!

Anyway, one of the challenges was to create a card using bold brights, 3 layers and something with wings. This is what I came up with. Sorry for the bad picture...I took it with my phone. Details below...

I love these two colors together and I'm going to miss Pink Passion so much. Speaking of Pink Passion, this will be one of the colors retiring. I've heard through the grapevine that alot of the retired colors are being placed on back order. Stampin' Up! will fulfill those back orders through May but through June once supplies are gone, they are gone so you better get your favorites before they are gone! You can place an order by calling me or through my website.

Well, I hope you all enjoy the card share. Please come back this weekend because VC Rocks will be doing a blog hop and I'm on the hop schedule. Come check out some new and refreshing ideas using our outgoing colors.

Happy stamping!!

I'm Back!!

I've been gone for a while...I got married in July and have never stopped going. I did give up SU! in May of last year but missed it so much that I decided to come back. I officially signed up at the end of March. I have been doing my monthly classes with my ladies in Kaufman but I hope to have a couple of more during the summer.

I haven't done much stamping but I do have some new stuff to share so I do hope you'll come back and check out what's new.

So glad to be back!!!

Kim
